After Effect - Samsung Galaxy Tab

Salam.

I have been using Samsung Galaxy Tab for a while and would like to share its pros and cons as a mobile phone and tablet. Hope such info will help you to determine whether you love it or hate it. I'm kinda standing in the middle of it.

Calling
Oh my! The worst part comes first. Calling is such a pain in the a**. Not just making it but also receiving it. Without headset, it seemed like the whole world is joining in the conversation. And I'm not joking. You can't have it near your ear and speak like normal phones, you have to face it. Damn its difficult! People will always look at you, thinking that you're some kind of sick bastard. Imagine a gadget freak being called that. 1 star for calling.

Messaging
Yes. This is heaven. The full QWERTY keypad is nice to the touch. I rarely made any mistakes. The threading in messaging keeps you updated if you are suffering from short term memory lapse. It feels like you are having a very big iPhone. 5 stars for messaging!

Multimedia
Its unbelievable that such gadget can have codecs for most of the files. My 1080p videos works fine and the audio is very good and loud enough to be enjoyed together. Music have no problems at all but the list seemed to be in a havoc. Using the 3.5mm jack has to be specific. Some earphones or speakers tend to suffer from echo problems as it has multifunction purposes. Normal headset works fine though. 4 stars for multimedia!

Games
The best part of this tablet. Its awesome. Having a big screen provides you with plenty of freedom with your fingers. You'll have precise accuracy compared to those small smartphones. Hoho. But the drawback is that you'll tire your fingers easily as you have to move them a lot. Dragging stuff here and there. And some games are not optimized for the large screen. But it's fun to play games on the big screen right? 4 stars for games!

Camera
Let me stress on this one. This thing is not a cameraphone. The quality will be rated as just nice. Its not excellent and not bad. What would you expect from a 3.2megapixel snapper? Its easily affected by bright lights but it works fine in outdoor conditions. Indoor with flash? Too bad. 2 stars for camera.

Gallery
Yes. Quite amazing. Viewing photos and images are great. With pinch zoom, you can play with your picture in anyway you want it. Basic on-spot editing such as rotating and cropping are also available. However, it is quite slow in scanning for images. Even if you have it done using USB cable. But the background is nice as it select photos at random. 4 stars for gallery!

Connectivity
Despite having Bluetooth 3.0, the latest that only Samsung have, the transfer still not as fast as it would be. I've tried it with my Samsung Wave which have the same 3.0 but the result is not promising. Even transferring a 2MB photos took quite a while. Wireless suffers no problems at all. Working fine. And I'm not pissed about that. 3 stars for connectivity.

Contacts
Very much appealed. Most of the basic detail are there and linking with Facebook and Twitter sprouts no mess-up. It even place birthday notification on the calendar automatically. Great job on contacts Samsung. Emails, address, phone numbers, up to annivessary are there. It even provide us with the latest activity with the contacts such as calls and messages. 5 stars for contacts!

There you go. Hope that will help you if you are thinking of getting a tablet mobile phone in the future. Of course there are two sides of the coins and sometimes you have to look for another coins.

Thanks for reading.

Canon Speedlite 320EX and 270EX II

Salam.

With the growth of technology, anything can happen. Recently, Canon introduces two new Speedlite unit. The 320EX and the 270EX II.

The 270EX II is a very small flash but it has adequate power to compensate those low light situation. It has a guide number of 27 and the special features of this flash is the remote release button. This can be used with the latest EOS 600D.

The 320EX holds the guide number of 32 and also has the same remote release button with 270EX. However, the major difference between the two is not only the design and guide number but also the built-in video light to be used with EOS range of cameras.

I personally finds the 320EX is a very great and portable flash unit as it is capable to improve low-light situation be it photo or video. Since most DSLR nowadays have a video-recording function, why not have a video-light? Right Canon?

Hope the price won't be too much for the users.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play - XPERIA SAW

Salam.

The video promo on the XPERIA Play was caught online and it looks like this.

Are they trying to show a movie trailer with the title SAW? Seriously, is the title for the movie, XPERIA SAW? I mean just look at it. The guy just stitch a thumb on each of the robot's hand!

No matter how freaking ridiculous it looks like, the main this is that, the XPERIA Play promo really want to turn on your mobile gaming mode.

But on second thoughts, doesn't it looks like PSPGo? Why didn't they just save all the money and created XPERIA Play instead of the fucked-up PSPGo?

Sony have a long way to go and they have to think of a better marketing strategies (like Nintendo).

That's all for now.

Snow in Plymouth

Salam.

It's rare for Plymouth to experience snow but since the last two years, it is like a dream comes true.

A shot that was featured in my Daily Photo #23 showed the second day of snow in Plymouth. But it was washed away by the sun's ray in the morning.

However, at 0135 today, snow starts pouring nonstop. I got some footage as well as some shots from my window. The time for the picture below is 0306.

It is expected to be more snow in several hours, so I keep myself awake to get a shot at the scene.

At 0355, the snow starts filling Plymouth again. It's the second wave after the first one at 0135. Here's the shot of it.

As of 0400, snow still continues to pour and I assume that this will continue until sunrise.

Now is 0900 and we can see the result of the downpour. Here is a shot at 0900.

And not to forget the video report of the snow.

That's all for now, thanks for watching.

Samsung Bada 1.2 update was a fake!

Salam.

Remember about the post about Samsung Bada 1.2 update? It was a fake after all. The update mentioned on the 25th of November is only the update for the Samsung Apps and no more than that.

If this is a fake, how about Bada 2.0?

Hope Samsung will sort it out.

DSLR Lens Abbreviation / Nickname / Shortform

Salam.

If you're a DSLR user, you must have heard of the abbreviation (shortform) such as IS, USM, VR and so on. Do you really know what it means? No idea? Let me explain to you what it's all about.

EF
Lens mount designation for Canon's current camera system. Stands for Electronic Focus.

EF-S
Lens mount designation for Canon's current APS-C digital SLRs (reduced sensor size), for example the 20D, 350D, and 300D models. The S stands for "short back focus," implying that the rear element of the lens is closer to the sensor than with regular EF lenses. EF-S lenses will not mount on Canon film SLRs or Digital SLRs that do not have an EF-S mount.

TS-E
Tilt-shift lens, for control of perspective and depth of field.

MP-E
Macro Photo Electronic. These lenses do not have autofocus, the "electronic" refers to the electronic aperture control. Specialised lenses designed for macro photography.

L Lenses
L refers to Canon's professional range of lenses. Many people take the L to stand for Luxury. Purchases of such lenses can lead to 'L Fever', a condition where all future lense purchases must be L class.

IS
IS refers to Image Stabilisation, Canon's anti-shake feature.

USM
USM refers to the autofocus motor. Ultrasonic Motors (USM) are piezoelectric and offer very fast and silent autofocusing. There are two types: A standard cheaper micro-USM which just replaces the regular electromagnetic AFD motor, and a Ring USM (internal focus) which is much faster and also incorporates fulltime manual focus overide without leaving AF mode (or damaging the focus mechanism).

AFD
An older type of AF motor, AFD (Arc-Form drive) is generally slower and noisier than USM.

DO
Diffractive Optics - DO lenses are found with green rings (as opposed to the red ring around the L-series lenses) to set them apart. DO considerably cuts the size and weight of a lens down while maintaining quality. Still not as sharp as a true L lens but in many cases a viable alternative when size or portability are a concern.

G
Electronically controlled aperture (other Nikkor lenses will have an aperture ring allowing physical, manual aperture control useful for the older bodies).

DX
Digital SLR compatible only. Similar to EF-S in Canon land but yet different, as it will work with any DX-format (APS-C 1.5x crop factor) SLR, which includes the entire range of digital Nikon SLRs from the D40 right up to the D2X. While they will still work with a non-DX format camera, Nikon does not recommend it.

ED
Stands for Extra Low Dispersion Glass. It is basically a glass coating that doesn't disperse light as it enters the lens as normal glass does.

D
Lens equipped with a "chip" which allows the camera body to assess the distance of the object being photographed and expose for that object correctly.

IF
Internal focusing - CPU controlled focusing performed by a CPU in the lens itself as opposed to gearing to the lens mount of the camera. The result is a far superior focusing speed.

AF
Auto-focus.

AF-S
Silent-wave auto-focus. Similar to Canon's USM.

VR
Vibration Reduction. Image Stabiliser technology allowing a photographer to shoot three-stops lower than without VR.

K
Is the first generation K mount lens, Manual Focus, Manual Exposure.

M
Second generation of K mount lens, smaller then their K counterparts, manual focus manual exposure.

A
First Auto exposure lenses from Pentax, manual focus.

F
First generation Auto Focus, Auto exposure lens.

FA
Second generation Auto Focus, Auto Exposure lens, On board chip contains lens MTF data for Hyper Program compatible bodies.

FA-J
Similar to FA lenses but don’t have an aperture ring.

DA
Digital Lenses, no aperture ring, some have reduced images circle some don’t, Digital coatings and optimised construction.

D-FA
Digital Lenses, aperture ring, covers a 35mm frame. Digital coatings and optimised construction.

* (star) Lens
Pentax’s equivalent to Canon’s L, lenses of exception quality. (A, F, FA).

DA*
Pentax’s High spec Digital lenses, Exceptional quality, weather sealed, SDM (Super Sonic Direct drive Motors) .

Limited
A prime lens of unparalleled image quality and construction, hand made to the highest quality.

AL
A lens that uses one or more aspherical elements to help improve wide angle performance and sharpness.

ED
A lens that uses extra-low dispersion glass elements reduces chromatic aberrations.

IF
A lens that uses an internal focusing mechanism.

SDM
Super Sonic in lens lens AF motors, silent and accurate Autofocus.

Fixed Rear Element Extension (FREE)
A lens whose last element group remains fixed during focusing.

SMC
Pentax’s lens coating technology.

Quick Shift
Allows manual adjustment of AF after AF lock has been achieved.

PZ
Power Zoom, and Electronic zoom function on KAF-2 mount FA lenses, only functional on Z series FSLRs and K10D digital body.

EX
An abreviation for the "Excellence" range of lenses. These lenses are similar to Canon's L series, claimed to be superior in build and optical quality to regular lenses. Like the L series they have a distinctive exterior.

DG
A DG lens can be used with both 35mm SLR and digital SLR cameras. DG refers to additional optical coatings that are meant to minimize reflections of light off the sensor itself.

DC
A DC lens is designed so the image circle matches the smaller size of a digital SLR's image sensor compared to a 35mm frame. These are typically lighter than DG lenses but are not suitable for 35mm SLRs.

ASP
An aspherical lens, which is more compact than conventional lenses.

APO
APO or apochromatic lenses are made using a low dispersion glass to reduce chromatic aberration.

OS
Optical Stabiliser. More or less identical to Canon's IS and Nikon's VR.

HSM
"Hypersonic Motor," which in the same way as Canon's USM is used to power the autofocus mechanism and is generally quieter and faster than conventional electromagnetic motors.

RF
Rear focus lenses move the rear lens elements delivering faster, more quiet focusing.

IF
Inner focus lenses move the middle lens elements which does not change the lens' overall length when focusing. This results in better stability, which is useful for telephoto shooting.

DF
A dual focus lens. The focus ring on the lens pushes forward and backwards dis-engaging it so it does not rotate during autofocus.

Conv.
These lenses are compatible with Sigma's teleconverters without and retain proper automatic exposure function.

AD
Anomalous Dispersion. Special optical glass design that reduces chromatic aberration by reducing the amount of "undesirable" light wavelength passage through the lens.

ASL
Aspherical Glass used in the lens.

Di
Digitally Integrated Design. This is the same as sigma's DG lenses and simply has extra coatings on the glass.

Di II
Lenses for Digital SLR Cameras Only (cameras with a APS-C size sensor) The same as Sigma's DC lenses.

IF
Internal focus.

LD
Low Dispersion Glass used in the lens.

SP
Super Performance. Tamron's "top shelf" high performance lenses sporting above average build quality, innovative design features and fine optical characteristics which set these lenses apart from standard lenses.

XR
Extra Refractive Index Glass.

DT
"Digital Technology", lenses for APS-C size sensors.

G
"G" Series, Sony professional lenses.

ZA
"Zeiss Alpha", manufactured by Sony to Carl Zeiss QC standards; capable of autofocus, unlike Zeiss lenses for other mounts.

SSM
"SuperSonic Motor", in-lens ultrasonic motor used on some Carl Zeiss and G Series lenses.

SAM
"Smooth Autofocus Motor", in-lens motor offered on some entry level lenses since 2009.

There you go. Nickname for all the lens has been explained. Hope that will help you.

Thanks for reading.

The Worst Smartphone Award

Salam.

We're back and this time is for the Worst Smartphone Award.

Its not Apple iPhone 4 or Samsung Omnia 7 has been in the nominees for several months but they didn't have the chance to win. Even a bit.

And the award goes to the NOKIA N8!

Congratulation you mudder-effer Finnish phonemaker! Your on going effort to make the worst smartphone on earth is undeniably great.

The judge are one of the N8 is a user who made a blog on how much the N8 fails. You can check it out here.

The points that made it a winner is the video recording. The 12 megapixel camera that does HD recording but doesn't offer playback on the device. Isn't it great? Of course its great because there has never been a phone that cannot play its own recorded videos on itself. That's the greatest invention of all!

I hope the Finnish are happy with the award.

We'll see you again next time. Thanks for reading.

World Most Stupid Submarine Award

Salam.

Today we are going to present an award of The World Most Stupid Submarine EVAR. From all the nominees and the judges believe they have found the winner.

Its not a submarine which a country bought and cannot submerge into the ocean (you'll know which country) but the Nuclear Submarine HMS Astute from Great Britain.

The £1.2b nuclear submarine stuck in the mud off the Isle of Skye when the sub are trying to take the crew abroad.

That is one silly mistake by the commander but that's what made it won the award. I believe the owner can't make it here today to give a speech so we'll end the award here.

Until next time. Thanks for reading.

HD Spectacles

Salam.

Do our eyes need HD? High definition? WTF? Its too much of technology dude! Isn't our glasses right now is HD? Well no explanation for that.

So they say that HD glasses makes the colour more vibrant and the contrast is like blablabla. The real reason? They are just using HD for extra money. Another marketing strategy.

From the science aspect, our eyes is more than HD. Even more than Retina Display that Apple has been promoting since iPhone 4. Don't be fooled. Get a normal spectacles is the same. No different than the HD ones. Just the name and maybe the quality is a little better. But believe me, OUR EYES IS MORE THAN HD.

And for the video log of the day.

That's all for today. I hope to finish my draft before tomorrow. Take care and have fun.

Salam.

Its me joining team MysteryGuitarMan Team for supernote. My current ranking is 192 and my longest note is 24.1. Damn. That was not fair.

I thought I can make longer note. Maybe its my dissertation that's making it short.

Here's the video of mine.

iPhone 4 FAIL BIG TIME!

Salam.

Apple iPhone 4. I have spent countless times reseaching about this phones and user experience. And the conclusion? IT FAILED BIG TIME!

The reason?

1. Bluetooth?
It has 1 but can't be used. WTF? Galaxy S got Bluetooth 3.0 and you can transfer anything!

2. File transfer?
You got 16/32 GB of free space but you CAN'T DRAG AND DROP STUFF TO YOUR MOBILE!

3. Connectivity?
You can't get it to become USB Mass storage when connected using USB. The only means of moving all those files is iTunes. What? You can't even transfer files from another phone!

4. GPS?
You are struggling with Google Maps with no GPS. What the heck are you trying to achieve?

5. User-friendly?
Fail too much I don't want to talk about it.

I agree its smooth, fluid, not stuck. But Samsung Galaxy S is way better for user experience.

Wait for my next video log.

How coffee is made

Salam.

Coffee. A word too familiar but we know nothing about it. Where does it came from? Ground? Durian? Old mine? Never imagined anything like that right? Here's the fact.

Coffee originates from the Ethiopia and it spreads to the Muslim world. From the Muslim world, coffee was spreading like wildfires throughout the centuries. Europe, Americas, Africa and Asia have tasted this delicious drink and it become popular in the society. How popular? How about Starbucks? Costa? There's a lot of coffee-based restaurant and I'm here just to name a few. So popular, the seventh legal trade in the world is coffee. Even technology can't fight that.

Process of making coffee

Picking - The ripe coffee berry is pluck by hand. Don't ask me why but even in this hi-tech era, coffee berries are still plucked by hands. No technology to that for sure. But there are machines used in Brazil for coffee plucking as the land is flat and easy for machines to get through.  If you ask me how do you know when to pluck the berries, here's a tip. The ripe one sunk in the water and the bad or unripe, stays afloat.

Processing - The pulp must be ripped way from the berry as it is not going to be processed. Its either done by hand or machine. Usually machine. After the removal of pulp, the beans will be washed and dried until its left with 10% of water for the next step. Another way for doing this step is a traditional way which is doing everything by hand without using water. The traditional way is being done practically at 95% of countries producing coffee as they mention 'it maintains the flavour'. I have nothing to say.

Milling - This means removing the last layer of dry skin on the coffee beans before it will be turn to dust. Seriously, most machine will do this to distinguish between good coffee beans and other stuff (rock, etc) or bad beans. After that, they will be classified according to their colour or size or whatever the manufacturer wants them to be.

Roasting - Actually, at this stage, coffee is basically done. But there are several types of coffee based on the level of heating. The dark one is usually roasted for a long time thus having more flavour in them. If you roast them for a little while, you will get green coffee. After they get roasted, they will be grind to powder. And it goes into your cup.

That's a little info on how coffee was made. Actually, they have like a long list of good-for-nothing to read but I make it simple enough for you to understand better. After this, when you drink coffee, you will realise the hardship behind the making of coffee.

Thanks for reading this post. Hope this will help you in your life. If there's any mistake, it comes only from me and nobody else and I apologize for that. Take care and have fun.
