Samsung Galaxy Tab Gingerbread Update Review

Salam.

Hi to all. I've just rooted and update my Tab to Android 2.3.3 (P1000DXJPE) Gingerbread and I've notices a lot of difference compared to the Froyo version. Let me make this short and simple so you guys won't fret over it.

New
- You will notice that the top slidebar slides down smoother without much lag.
- New widget (date, time and/or weather)
- New icon for browser
- New download apps
- New apps: Pulse. Some sort of news apps.
- New apps: Sketch Memo. A memo where you can write down using your finger.
- New apps: Social Hub. You can find that on Samsung Wave. Basically view your social network accounts.
- When you use screen capture, you will notice that there is like a flash effect on the screen.
- Clock have new styles and when you are setting the alarm, it looks a bit better
- Calculator has better interface
- Task manager: RAM menu has no Level 1 or 2 anymore. Only Clear Memory is there.

As an overall, there have been slight improvement over the performance of the Tab. Less lag than before. I've never experience any problems over the use if Wi-fi and Bluetooth. I guess connectivity have improve a lot since I've suffered from drop out a few times with Froyo.

Hope that gives you enough details before you decided on updating your device.

After Effect - Samsung Galaxy Tab

Salam.

I have been using Samsung Galaxy Tab for a while and would like to share its pros and cons as a mobile phone and tablet. Hope such info will help you to determine whether you love it or hate it. I'm kinda standing in the middle of it.

Calling
Oh my! The worst part comes first. Calling is such a pain in the a**. Not just making it but also receiving it. Without headset, it seemed like the whole world is joining in the conversation. And I'm not joking. You can't have it near your ear and speak like normal phones, you have to face it. Damn its difficult! People will always look at you, thinking that you're some kind of sick bastard. Imagine a gadget freak being called that. 1 star for calling.

Messaging
Yes. This is heaven. The full QWERTY keypad is nice to the touch. I rarely made any mistakes. The threading in messaging keeps you updated if you are suffering from short term memory lapse. It feels like you are having a very big iPhone. 5 stars for messaging!

Multimedia
Its unbelievable that such gadget can have codecs for most of the files. My 1080p videos works fine and the audio is very good and loud enough to be enjoyed together. Music have no problems at all but the list seemed to be in a havoc. Using the 3.5mm jack has to be specific. Some earphones or speakers tend to suffer from echo problems as it has multifunction purposes. Normal headset works fine though. 4 stars for multimedia!

Games
The best part of this tablet. Its awesome. Having a big screen provides you with plenty of freedom with your fingers. You'll have precise accuracy compared to those small smartphones. Hoho. But the drawback is that you'll tire your fingers easily as you have to move them a lot. Dragging stuff here and there. And some games are not optimized for the large screen. But it's fun to play games on the big screen right? 4 stars for games!

Camera
Let me stress on this one. This thing is not a cameraphone. The quality will be rated as just nice. Its not excellent and not bad. What would you expect from a 3.2megapixel snapper? Its easily affected by bright lights but it works fine in outdoor conditions. Indoor with flash? Too bad. 2 stars for camera.

Gallery
Yes. Quite amazing. Viewing photos and images are great. With pinch zoom, you can play with your picture in anyway you want it. Basic on-spot editing such as rotating and cropping are also available. However, it is quite slow in scanning for images. Even if you have it done using USB cable. But the background is nice as it select photos at random. 4 stars for gallery!

Connectivity
Despite having Bluetooth 3.0, the latest that only Samsung have, the transfer still not as fast as it would be. I've tried it with my Samsung Wave which have the same 3.0 but the result is not promising. Even transferring a 2MB photos took quite a while. Wireless suffers no problems at all. Working fine. And I'm not pissed about that. 3 stars for connectivity.

Contacts
Very much appealed. Most of the basic detail are there and linking with Facebook and Twitter sprouts no mess-up. It even place birthday notification on the calendar automatically. Great job on contacts Samsung. Emails, address, phone numbers, up to annivessary are there. It even provide us with the latest activity with the contacts such as calls and messages. 5 stars for contacts!

There you go. Hope that will help you if you are thinking of getting a tablet mobile phone in the future. Of course there are two sides of the coins and sometimes you have to look for another coins.

Taking care of your Smartphone's Screen

Salam.

Since most of you guys...and girls are using smartphones with touchscreen, let me share a few tips that can help you.

1. Use a screen protector.
A rule that's applicable to mostly everything with screen. Even if your are not touching them like PSP. It works as a cover to protect your screen from being scratch. Some of the most popular types of screen protectors are regular, privacy and anti-glare. Anti-glare would be the best as it prevents fingerprints and makes your phone looks solid.

2. Avoid pressing the screen.
Hey there dumbo! That's why they call it TOUCHscreen and not PRESSscreen! Since smartphones nowadays are equipped with capacitive touchscreen, there's no need for you to poke it with stylus or anything with pointed end. Everything will be fine with just your fingers. You wouldn't want to waste hundreds or thousands that you have invested.

3. Use a case or pouch.
Well? For safety purposes only. Yes. This is not just to avoid scratches on the screen but also on the body of your phones. Imagine lending it to your friend and suddenly BANG! There goes your wallet. The best case would be the leather case that cover both front and back side of your phones. Leather case have better shock absorbant compared to gel or plastic case.

4. Wipe the screen regularly.
Little by little and the damage done is irreversible. Accumulated dust and smudges can get through the screen protector and damage the screen. This is due to the friction of the dust and your finger that will eventually makes the screen protector goes thinner day by day. A little physics won't hurt right?

MWC 2011 - Early start by Samsung

Salam.

MWC 2011 haven't even started but Samsung already ahead of the race with the introduction of Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The Galaxy S II comes with an even better display than what's offer last year which is the SuperAMOLED Plus display. The screen measured 4.3" and Samsung claimed that it is the best display in the world and even better than the IPS LCD.

At the moment of speaking, the Galaxy S II is equipped woth the most powerful phone processor in the world! Using their own Orion system, it also comes with 1GB of RAM. It is very light and thin plus the battery inside the gut is a 1650 mAh which will be able to juice the Galaxy S II for quite some time.

1080p video recording and playback are also available on-board together with Adobe Flash 10.1. The new user interface seems to be another feature on this phone.

In the other hand, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 comes with 10.1" 1280x800 WXGA screen, 8MP camera, 1080p video capture, stereo speakers and a 6850 mAh battery.

The Next Galaxy S

Salam.

The next Samsung Galaxy S is making its way to the MWC 2011 in Barcelona.

From the video, the new Galaxy S seems to be very thin (unbelievably thin). This may due to the use of SuperAMOLED in the display.

Let's sit back, relax and enjoy the 12 days before the MWC 2011.

My 2011 Gadget Wishlist

Salam.

Previously I put on a post about my wishlist (here) and now I have a new one as the last one got outdated pretty easily as technology move at a very fast rate these few years.

These are the gadgets that I really want to have despite their overly-expensive price. I love gadgets and its not a surprise for me to have one.

The first one on the list is the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Many of you might have wondered why I choose this piece of shit where people all across the globe condemned it. Well, here are a few of my own reasons.
- It is a tablet which is the cheapest compared to an iPad.
- It's running on Android which means it has all those funny widgets hanging around the homescreen. Compared to an iPad which shows nothing but icons.
- Its a MOBILE PHONE. A feature that iPad doesn't have.
- Small size and very portable.
Well, that's my reasoning. If you like it, you'll be like a G6. If not, GTFO.

The second on my wishlist is the Canon EOS 7D.
For this one, I'm not sure about the reasoning because I believe I will not be able to even own it. Freaking expensive and full of features, this DSLR is one of my favourite.
Don't ask when will I buy this piece of junk, I've got no money. Maybe I can have a lot if I sell my body to some rich girls (just kidding).

And number 3 is what-cha-ma-called-it Dyson Air Multiplier.
It is actually a bladeless fan which have 15 times more power than conventional fan. Isn't it interesting?
But I believe it is just a dream-that-will-definitely-won't-come-true.
After experiencing it for a while in London,  I believe it is a must-have item in every house in Malaysia. I wonder why it was mass produced in the UK? Its freaking cold right there. They should have made it in Malaysia.

That is the only three which is on my wishlist. And I believe it will stay as a dream. Having the honour to experience using them is already enough for me. If I ever get all those three, I might be the happiest gadget freak on the planet.

That's all for now. Thanks for reading my mumbling thoughts.

See you next time.
