LG Star Tegra - The Real iPhone Killer

Salam.

Recently this phone is gaining popularity through leak photos of it circulating around the net. Why? Because this phone is FASTER THAN IPHONE 4!

Yeah. You got it. From the leak photos, we can see that it supports HDMI, equipped with 8MP camera with LED flash and running Android 2.2 Froyo. Rumour has it that it will be getting Android 2.3 Gingerbread out-of-the-box.

From the picture above, you can see it surpasses the Nexus One in terms of speed. FYI, Nexus One is the fastest smartphone in terms of GPU processing but its not that smooth due to lack of RAM. But not the LG Star Tegra.

Let's wait for its debut anytime soon because its a super-great christmas gift.

Let's hope it will become a great Christmas present.

Remember about the post about Samsung Bada 1.2 update? It was a fake after all. The update mentioned on the 25th of November is only the update for the Samsung Apps and no more than that.

If this is a fake, how about Bada 2.0?

Hope Samsung will sort it out.

Nikon Nikkor Lens AF-S DX 35mm 1.8G

Salam.

A Nikon lens decided to drop by my room today and I gave it a little unboxing and review. It is the Nikon Nikkor Lens AF-S DX 35mm 1.8G.

The lens is also equipped with ring-type SWM (Silent Wave Motor) which is identical to the Canon's ring USM (Ultrasonic Motor). It means that the lens will not move when you are focusing. Besides, it has full time manual focus override and works only with DX format camera. The maximum aperture for this lens is f/22 and the filter size is 52mm.

Pros
- Excellent image quality when stopped down just a little
- Fast and accurate autofocus with full-time manual override
- Generally attractive rendition of out-of-focus regions ('bokeh')
- Resistant to flare

Cons
Slightly soft and low in contrast wide open
- Lateral chromatic aberration somewhat higher than traditional 50mm 'standard' primes
- Prone to purple fringing and bokeh chromatic aberration, most visible

That's all for now. Hope that will help you.

Rockmelt Browser- The Future of Facebook and Twitter

Salam.

While I was away from Plymouth, I got an email invitation to use Rockmelt. I was like WHOAAA!!! Seriously, I was waiting for this moment as Rockmelt is the most user-friendly browser for Facebook and Twitter.

After installling, it integrate my Facebook account into the browser and after that, my Twitter joins the club. The browser is superb with support of Adobe Flash. I really like the interface as it looks like Google Chrome but it doesn't crash as often as Google Chrome. In fact, it never crashes up until now. After installing Rockmelt, you get to invite 3 friends of yours to download and use it. Invite those who are always on Facebook and Twitter as it will be useful for them.

The integration of websites on the right-hand side is very useful as it provides updates on websites that I always visit. On the left-hand side is the Facebook Chat which enables you to pin your favourite friends there.

The only drawback for Rockmelt is that it doesn't integrate with Internet Download Manager like Mozilla Firefox does. However, I believe the team behind Rockmelt will do their best in applying this feature. Loading is fast compared to Mozilla Firefox and the search bar on the top-right corner allows you to choose which search engine's result you like.

Overall, this is a must-have browser for Facebook and Twitter users as it is very-VERY helpful, nice, fast and interesting to look at. I give Rockmelt the total score of 9.2 out of 10 for being the best browser in the world.

Thanks for reading. I hope Rockmelt can be a better browser in the future and people will be able to experience it to the fullest.

Bada Games Update - Playtomo and Empire Defense Lite

Salam.

There has been an update on Playtomo and Empire Defense Lite for Bada users such as Samsung Wave S8500 users.

The update for Playtomo will include few more games and Empire Defense Lite will give you 100000 money on the first time opening it. Empire Defense Lite will make you turn your phone sideways to the left instead of to the right. Basically both games are a little faster as they remove some bugs and lower memory consumption.

Hope you will update your today. If you're playing them.

Canon EOS 60D

Salam.

When the 50D comes out, people go WOOOOOOWWWW! But when 60D comes out, people are like, MEH? Why? That is going to be discussed today. The latest DSLR from Canon in 2010, the Canon EOS 60D.

The magnesium alloy body was gone. Yup. Down the toilet by Canon. But that doesn't mean that Canon 60D is not good. Here are some key features of the Canon EOS 60D.

- 18MP APS-C CMOS sensor
- ISO 100-3200 (expandable to 12,800)
- 5.3 fps continuous shooting
- 1080p HD video recording with manual controls
- SD / SDHC / SDXC storage
- In-camera raw development
- Subject modes with 'Ambience Selection' (Standard, Vivid, Soft, Warm, Intense, Cool, Brighter, Darker and Monochrome)
- In-camera Creative Filters (special effects)
- Fully articulated 3.0" screen (3:2)

Despite the critics towards the 60D, it is undeniable that it does go high near to the 7D. Let's check out the pro and cons of the 60D as stated in the review by Dpreview.

Pros
- Excellent image quality up to ISO settings unthinkable just one camera generation ago
- Extremely high detail and resolution at base ISO, good per-pixel sharpness
- Very good low-light performance, with low noise levels and good retention of detail
- Good ergonomics, well shaped and comfortable hand grip
- Customizable user interface
- In-camera raw conversion options and Creative Filters give easy creative options
- Excellent LCD screen is articulated (great for videographers and tripod users)
- On-screen Q-Menu offers good access to shooting settings
- Good quality 1080/720p video output with a range of frame rates and control over exposure
- External microphone socket
- Useful highlight tone priority mode
- Good battery life
- Comprehensive software bundle

Cons
- Slow AF in Live Mode reduces benefit of articulated screen for stills shooting
- White balance often excessively orange under artificial light
- Slight tendency to overexpose in contrasty conditions
- Post-processing options oddly arranged (and don't provide access to the Ambience options)
- Plastic construction not as reassuring as its metal-bodied peers

There you go. The Canon EOS 60D. The latest DSLR by Canon in 2010. If you are interested in it, get it. The price for the body is around £630/RM3150 and for body with kitlens (18-135mm) is £850/RM4250.

Hope that will give you some info on the Canon EOS 60D.

Sigma 18-125mm f/3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM

Salam.

Today will be about the lens I've got. I'm suppose to get it on Tuesday but due to some people not being able to read my name properly, I got it on Friday. Whatever. I guess the saying 'Stupidity comes in all forms' does fit the situation.

Enough with all chitchat. Lets get to the point. The lens that I've got here is the Sigma 18-125mm f/3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM. In case you guys didn't know what DC OS HSM is, click here to know it. Here are some key features of it.

- High zoom ratio lens designed exclusively for digital SLR.
- Incorporate Sigma's OS (Optical Stabilizer)
- SLD glass and Aspherical lenses provide high image quality throughout the entire zoom range.
- Super multi-layer coating reduces flare and ghosting.
- Compact construction of 88.5mm (3.5”) in length and 74mm (2.9”) in diameter.
- Minimum focusing distance of 35cm (13.8") and maximum magnification of 1:3.8, making it ideal for close-up photography.
- HSM ensures quiet and high speed autofocus.

It can fit Sigma, Nikon and Canon nicely with all functions can be used. However, for Pentax users, the camera body must support HSM or else, the function won't work and your will be stuck with manual focus. And also the OS is not available for Sony and Pentax mount mainly because they has built it stabilization in the camera body.

The Advantage of this lens are as follows:
- Excellent for capturing small objects with a minimum focusing distance of 13.8 at all focal lengths & produces a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.8
- HSM (Hyper-Sonic Motor) ensures a quiet & high-speed auto focus
- Offers Sigma’s OS System (Optical Stabilization) allowing handheld photography even in low-light situations. It offers the equivalent of using a shutter speed approximately 4 stops faster.
- Cheap
- Really nice focal length range. Really nice-sized lens. It seems solid and well-built with nearly no wobble in the components.

The lens also comes free with disadvantage such as;
- Barrel distortion is apparent at 18mm (this is no surprise), but pincushion distortion quickly sets in over the rest of the focal length range. Pincushion distortion is especially strong between 35 and 60mm and again in the low 70s.
- This is not a real sharp lens even stopped down.

Here is the picture of my lens mounted on my Canon EOS 1000D with its hood on.

And here is a sample of photo taken with this lens.

The main reason I get this lens is because its a very good travel lens which suit a normal travelling needs from wide angle to telephoto. And also because its cheap and the DSLR body that I bought didn't come with a lens. This lens can replace your kitlens but it will not fit your normal bag you use for your kitlens. Why? Its bigger and longer.

Hope that will help you. Thanks for reading.

Samsung 2011 Flagship Smartphone

Salam.

Looking for a super smartphones that can make you droll? Be patient and wait until next year. Why? Because Samsung is making one.

The unnamed phone get into rumours yesterday and would you like to know what are the key features that can make you droll? Here you go.

1080p Full HD Video recording
Will this feature kill the camcorder market? Who knows.

4.5" sAMOLED 2
We've heard about the SuperAMOLED before. But this might be more awesome. Maybe Retina Display will be flushed down the toilet.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread
Out-of-the-box latest OS is what people are waiting for (even me!). No need for update until Android 3.0 comes out.

1.2GHz CPU
OMG! That is faster than my netbook! And we expect the RAM will be around 1GB.

8 Megapixel Camera
That is on par with all the smartphones now. Why don't you make it 14 Megapixel, Samsung? Or maybe you can't?

16GB Built-in Memory
That's good. Which means more apps to be installed. Or maybe You can install all Android apps in the Android Market? Your choice.

Thats a lot of improvement made by Samsung to win in the Android race. But to get the customers' attention, they have to make a phone that is fast and smooth and not just full of specs.

Thanks for reading.
